A writer in winter…

Well, folks... we did it.

February is FINALLY at an end.

Despite being the shortest month of the year, this one seemed to drag on for an eternity... Maybe because, here in Massachusetts, we spent most of it buried under deep snow after several consecutive storms.

I’m beyond ready for spring to arrive… along with THE SEA SPINNER which hits shelves two months from today. (The countdown is officially on!)

In this month’s newsletter, I’ll give you a peek behind the curtain at my recent writing progress, announce some exciting upcoming release dates, share several giveaway opportunities to win free copies, and (as always) tell you what I’ve been reading/watching to fill the creative well since we last chatted.

For me, winter means writing mode. And I’ve been hard at work on a few different projects…

1. A spicy, suspenseful standalone romantic comedy called WORST LAID PLANS, which is a third book in my Witch City series.

2. The first book in a new dark dystopian fantasy duology, which is currently out on submission to publishers.

3. Edits for book three in my Reign of Remnants trilogy, which are due back to my editor in a few short weeks.

For fans of my Salem books, you’ll be happy to hear I’m planning to release WORST LAID PLANS this fall, just in time for spooky season! I’ll be sharing more updates (official release date, cover reveal, and preorder links) with you in next month’s newsletter.

And for those of you who are waiting patiently to continue reading about Rhya, Penn, and Soren in my high fantasy Remnants trilogy, I have even better news: THE SEA SPINNER is just two months away.

Personal life updates are going to be a bit light this month, because I’ve been basically a hermit since the start of 2026. (LOL.)

As I mentioned at the start of this newsletter, it’s been a super snowy winter here in Massachusetts, with more than 60 inches piling up over the past two months. At this point, I don’t even bother digging out my car, which is a highly impractical (but highly enjoyable) two-seater convertible. I’m just going to wait for it to melt.

It has to melt eventually, right?

If there’s one good thing about being snowed in, it’s a great excuse to hibernate. To recharge. To relax a bit. To stay cuddled up and cozy by the fireplace, reading good books. To cook hearty soups and wear fuzzy socks and ignore the world at large.

I did manage to briefly escape hibernation (and brave the towering snow banks) to see the musical Hadestown as it passed through Boston on tour this week. It was wonderful, with a talented cast, great lyrics, and a powerful message.

In an online world constantly bogged down by a deluge of AI slop, it felt restorative on a soul-deep level to see an art form that can’t be replaced by robots.

If you’re feeling bummed out about the state of generative AI invading the writing/music/art/film industries, I highly recommend supporting live artistry whenever you can. We may not be able to stop the tech bros from forcing this crap into every corner of our lives, but we can resist engaging with it.

Art is, and always will be, human.

Trapped inside in the cold, it will come as no surprise that I’ve been reading quite a bit these past few months. In January, I was in a romantic suspense mood, so I devoured a handful of books by Devney Perry (Indigo Ridge was my favorite) plus several from the backlists of Catherine Cowles and Penelope Douglas.

My thriller kick continued with the charming whodunit Mother-Daughter Murder Night by Nina Simon which I enjoyed so much, I bullied my own mother into reading so we could discuss it afterward. Another thriller I’m excited to start: The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley, which I picked up a copy of this week.

After years of sitting on my shelf collecting dust, I finally started two series I’m excited to continue: Red Rising by Pierce Brown and Plated Prisoner by Raven Kennedy. (Better late than never, right?)

For TV: I’ve been enjoying the new season of The Pitt as it drops week by week, and will be diving into Bridgerton S4 now that it’s been fully released. I also devoured the dramatic ANTM docu-series and the highly bigeable serial killer thriller The Hunting Party.

On the big screen: I went to see The Housemaid, and (of course) the controversial new Wuthering Heights adaptation. I’m also hoping to see Send Help before it leaves theaters later this week… if I decide to dig my car out of the snow, that is.
